I put all that standard stuff and regret that I did. I will not wear my necklace now.

Give me NSAIDs if I'm having a heart attack

give me sugars if I'm hypoglycemic.

for what it's worth I bought and registered a bracelet but my sister who is a Emergency Nurse at Queensway - Carleton Hospital in Ottawa says they don't look for medical alerts it's actually the last thing they will look for. First thing is whoever is bringing the person to the hospital ie; paramedics or family and 2nd is any history on file at the hospital. but the medical alert jewelry is really a waste of time because they will do the NG Tube regardless and the others..... no NSAIDS and No Sugars is something that affects you over the course of time not just one time use of those so a bracelet will not prevent that from happening.  So I'm not so worried about the bracelet and will not renew the registration when it comes due.

I am a big believer in less is more on a bracelet. Here's the post

There is alot of chat about do and do nots of the bracelet.  Some say wear one, others say not to.  I wore one for a few years until it broke and never replaced it.  personally if I'm in some horrific accident I don't care what they do to save my life, give me NSAIDS or glucose drip. I would love to hear what others have to say.

I have said this before and I am not sure if it was here, but here we go :)

Being with the St John Ambulance, the Medic Alerts does the talking when you can't.  So please have information that would be beneficial when you can't talk.  It would be great to know not to give a blind GI because your are RNY and even of you wear contacts.  It isn't really necessary to have a statement about dietary needs since it is unlikely that you would be fed while you are unconscious.  The Medical First Respond need know why we can't so that the alternative can be used. Also it has been found that registered Medic Alert have more information than the simple engraved ones.  They have next of contact, your doctor as well as any other information that A) won't fit on the bracelet and B) any more detailed information for the hospital.

I renew mine every time.
