TMI - stool softners And #2.....
Hi guys,
so I am 4 days out. For the past 2 nights I have taken Sennacot as per my surgeons instruction. He also said to take a stool softner but I couldn't find one that was small enough..... So now I realize why he suggested this as I can not go #2. It is there and ready but not able to come out. I am terrified to strain so what can I take? What did you take? Any suggestions???
Thanks for the replies ladies :)
my husband went to shoppers and they told him I could only have the liquid soflax, my goodness it tasted like garbage and I want to throw up after!! She said the pills would be too big!! I will get them though if they go down ok. So, I went and lord help me I hope I don't have a hernia now!!!
Hi, sorry to hear about your problem. That can be very uncomfortable. The rule of thumb from a nursing perspective is if there is a problem taking a medication from the top (by mouth), then you approach from the bottom, ie suppository or enema (warm water). As undesirable as that may be for some, it should do the trick. Good luck, hope you're feeling better soon.
I read about this problem a lot before I went in for surgery so I bought a stool softener before I went. My first night home (day 3 post op) I took a spoonful of Colace, and then a dose with each meal the next day. I had a very gentile BM on post op night 4. I just bought it at Superstore and I think it was around $8. I find it tastes like peppermint. I'm on day 8 now, and have only had to take the liquid once more. Now that I can eat more (woo! 1/4 cup of food!), I am cutting fat-free plain yogurt with strained prunes (yes, baby food lol) and I haven't had a problem since, and I am still on my pain meds.
