I have waited 2 years, and I'm finally getting to meet my surgeon on Friday August 15th, 2014. My only question I have right now, and I can't seem to find it anywhere is the amount of OPTIFAST required based on current weight OR excess weight carried?

I've googled it, I've gone to the website, and nothing gives me answers.

Woo-hoo. ..2 years is a long wait....I'm not sure how many weeks you will need but I know the receptionist at my surgeons office told me if I told her my weight she could let me know how many weeks approximately but the surgeon will make the final decision.

I got sick after my initial orientation in October 2012. So I had to cancel appointments until I was able to function again last summer. So it is based on current weight, and not excess weight carried.

Through my surgeons office it was $110/week so it will just vary on how many weeks you need. My surgeon told me for every 100lbs you weigh it's one week of optifast. So if your between 300-399lbs then you would need 3 weeks of optifast and if your 200-299lbs you need 2 weeks of optifast. Hope that helps keep in mind each surgeon is different but it should give you a good idea of how much you will need.

They aren't premixed they come in individual packets 14 in a box and you mix them with 300ml of water. I personally added ice to make it more thick and filling. It comes in chocolate and vanilla flavors I personally didn't mind the taste it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to taste and keep in mind you can add sugar free syrups to add flavor or decaf coffee I also used no sugar added jello as flavor.

I met my surgeon last week and my surgery is on the 27th.  I weigh 240 pounds so I thought I would only need 2 weeks of opti but the surgeon wanted me to do 3.  I asked the nurse why and she said I was just on the edge of needing 2 or 3.  I guess it is up to the surgeon.  I have my fingers crossed for you for 2 weeks!! Good luck!
