How much did you lose..

I'm just wondering how much everyone lost on opti...I've been on it for 16 days and done pretty well I think and I have 15 days left.  I know there is no magic number they expect people to lose on opti but was your surgeon happy with your results?

I lost 13lbs on opti. My surgeon wasn't concerned with that, just that my liver was in good shape, and he was able to move it for my RNY.

21 lbs on three weeks of Opti.  They weight you at the PATTS appointment but not before surgery so I'm not sure the amount of weight lost matters to the surgeons in Ottawa.  They only care that your liver is small enough that they can do the operation safely.

There is no set rule as to how much people lose on opti.  Some people lose a lot, some don't lose at all.  The purpose of Opti is to shrink your liver, any weight loss is a bonus.

Ya,  I know the weight loss isn't what the sole intention of opti fast is.  I was just curious on the impact it did have...and I never got weighed at my PATTS appt.  Actually, my center hasn't weighed me in the better part of a year.

After getting a new scale I know the real number I've lost so far is 9lbs and that's one week on Optifast. 

How do they know what effect Opti actually has on shrinking the liver, if they have never checked the liver before the operation? I always wondered about why they didn't do an ultrasound or something before in order to measure.... What if someone needs more time on Opti because of their liver size?

ok, rant done.  I lost 7 lbs the first week but nothing the second week so far. Could be water retention though, pms.

In Ottawa they do an abdominal ultrasound before you meet the surgeon and they do look at and measure your liver.  Not sure how other center's do it.  I've heard there's a rule of thumb - 200+ = 3 weeks Opti, 300+ = 4 weeks on Opti etc.  Not sure if that holds true for all centers or not.

At TWH I did not have any ultrasound, or any real physical testing other than bloodwork.
