Day 5 of opti - gurgling stomach

My stomach was really loud while on Opti as well. And even for the first month or two post-op. It's intrusive! Especially in an office setting. Like another poster, I would cough to mask the noise. But my cubicle-mates and co-workers could sometimes hear it.

I doubt changing the Metamucil dosage will help it really. You can try though, but it may clog you up or give you other bowel issues. If you are doing SF jello or popsicles, it may be the alcohols in them that are causing the problem, but again, as long as it's only gurgling, it really isn't drastic.

It's just one of those things I learned to live with as I went through the stages of this process. While minimally painful, it didn't give me any grief per se, so as long as it is only gurgling, I wouldn't fret too much about it.

Hope the Opti is going well!

Feeling better today - I think you are right about the sugar alcohols.  I had only 1 sf jello cup instead of 2 and only 1 piece of gum.  23 shakes gone and only 61 shakes to go until surgery!

I'm inclined to say get used to it! My pouch makes all kinds of funny rumbly noises. I can't control it - sometimes it's embarassing but you just move past it. Tiredness/irritability are normal. I wish I had better advice for you but unfortunately Opti seems to be one of those things you just have to power through. Keep your eye on the prize!

I can live with it as long as it does not become painful again like yesterday.

All you are taking in is liquids so it makes sense that all the liquids in there are making the noise.  I remember by stomach being really loud on Optifast and we were not allowed veggies either and also for the first two weeks post op on liquids it was the same.  There's nothing to stop the liquids from sloshing around so the noise is there.

Glad to hear it is normal to have the noise while on liquids only.  I am going to try the opti pudding tonight by making it really thick and eating it with a spoon. Maybe it will be a little less sloshy in there if it is thicker?

I believe we are through the same center (Ottawa), and my surgery date is the 18th.  I'm on day four of the Opti, and I know from past experiences that SF products do NOT agree with me.  So I'm only having herbal teas, broth and the Opti.

As it is...the Opti has aspartame in it, and that is making me break out into a rash (tiny itchy bumps) on my face.  But I can live with it.

I've had no gurgling whatsoever, but surprisingly, I continue to have one BM in the mornings....wondering if I'll keep pooping as the days progress, or what? I know, I know...TMI.

Yes, we are - I am on day 8 now and it is a lot better in general. It is still hard to see tv commercials for food and I can'****ch the food network, it is too hard.  I have a tip for you - try squeezing fresh lemon juice and adding some black pepper to the broth.  Tastes a lot better and gives you something fresh for a change.  We are allowed fresh lemon or lime juice in our meal planner.  Hope things are going well and glad to hear you have no gurgling.  I still have some but nothing like that day.

At 10 days post op, I am just starting to look at recipes online. No Food Network for me!  I unfollowed a couple restaurants on Twitter too...bye bye food porn! Hello pureed vegetable soups! Woot!

Ooooh!  Happy dance!

I'ma gonna pick up some lemon tomorrow and try that!!

The allergic rash from the Opti is still here...itchy as dang all, and I actually get a wee bit hot and flushed after each one.  Lana wants me to try a modified Opti, with two shakes a day and two low cal, low carb, high protein meals.  But I'm going to try sticking it out...I rather like this no cooking, no meal prep business. Besides, I'm a walking Murphy's Law...what can go wrong, WILL go wrong, so I want that liver in tip top shape for the surgeon.

Mmmmmm....liver.....with onions and gravyyyy.....

Oh dear Lord, please take me out back and shoot me.
