WLS contributing to eye sight changes...?

Hi Everyone,

Today marks my 8 week AKA 2 month post op day! Feeling great (finally...took me 7 weeks to get to this point). I do have a question though...I haven't been to the eye doc in over a year so i'm due for my yearly check.  I do wear glasses and am wondering: Should I wait until a certain month mark post op before I go? I know with rapid weight loss there can be some hormonal issues and changes in eyesight - anyone ever had this? Or a suggestion on how long I should weight before I go?

I have eye issues but they were never related to my WLS. I have had no issues due to my rny

I never had eye issues with WLS either.  If you have had any prescription changes due to WLS, then I'd wait until that settles as I know that some prescriptions will affect your sight.

I've worn glasses/contacts for over 25 years...  Had RNY in Jan 2013 and lost just over 169lbs.  Eyesight never affected by WL or WLS.

Feet size, yes (9 to an 8)

Finger size, yes (10.5 to 7.5)

Body size , yes (26 to 14)

I only wish I could say WLS could give me 20/20 :-)  I would have had the surgery for that alone LOL (have -5.75 for the past 10 years)

Have learned that I can't measure my journey only by what I've lost.  I've gained health and extra time on this earth ... that is most important

Thanks everyone! I wasn't sure if WLS would affect my eyesight but thought i'd ask since I had read it somewhere (probably was just a dream though ha ha). Wish my eyesight would get to 20/20! I read that it can change, not necessarily for the better, but just change in general. This girl needs new glasses so I may just make my appointment and see what happens!

What will change is the size and shape of your face. You might want to wait to get new glasses after your face shrinks

I'm diabetic, and I visited my optometrist about 2 weeks before my surgery.  He stated that we should wait a couple of months after surgery as there may be changes to my vision.  I haven't really noticed anything, it was just what he stated.

VitaminA deficiencies can also lead to eye sight changes.  Just a heads up.

I'm two weeks out and have noticed a change in my eyesight.  It's not for the better either!  I just turned 50 and have been putting off getting reading glasses because of vanity but suddenly it may not be an option.  They are decidedly worse since the operation.  This could be coincidence but it's a heckuva coincidence!

Your eye sight can most certainly be affected. Were you diabetic prior to surgery? If your sugar is changing most likely your eye sight is too!
