Abdo. Pain: Cause unknown?

I am 1 year and 4 months out from RNY and for the last 5 nights have had extreme pain in my abdomen (upper center), radiating into my back. The pain only occurs after supper to bedtime and subsides. Gallbladder has already been removed. Endoscopy, CT Scan, Bloodwork, X-Ray, EKG...all have come back as normal. Have spent since Friday night to 6pm Saturday at my local small town hospital. On consult with Ottawa Civic, they requested I drive directly there; where I have currently been for 8 hours. Has anyone else had this?

It could be an internal hernia. I had one that just wouldn't show on any diagnostic so they did an exploratory surgery and there it was.

Recovery was not as bad as the initial WLS but harder than gall bladder removal and was only a day surgery.

So, with the hernia repair, you were home same day? Just wondering if I need to take the week off work if it occurs.

I was home the same day. Though, because I found the recovery a little more intense than gall bladder removal, I would expect to take a few days off work.

Of course, every one is different and you may feel fantastic! Good luck!

Thanks so much. Exactly what gen. Surg. thinks they may see on Cat Scan. Waiting on Dr. Yelle to come in to have a look. If so, surgery tomorrow.

It's amazing how much trouble hernias can make for us. So many patients get them either early out or down the line. I'm assuing that kidney stones have been ruled out....

Please make a lot of noise about pain. This MUST be pursued.

So true! We must be our own advocate for sure! So...Dr. Yelle has spoken; twisted bowel and internal hernia. Admitted at the Civic and surgery tomorrow.

Wishing you a speedy pain free recovery and recooperation with a bit of holiday time ( with pay of course hehehe) to enjoy the summer.

We had pre warnings about these kinds of complications when we visited our surgeon and before we signed the consent forms.
