What food(s) can you no longer eat after WLS?
I've never stopped drinking fully leaded coffee. When I had surgery 8 years ago, it wasn't an issue. I've gone with that. lol I had a major change in my taste for things - everything, and I mean EVERYTHING tasted too sweet. Still does, even milk. Bleah. I used to have a love affair with eggs. We had a bad break-up post-op and it's only in the last couple of years that we've reconciled.
Everyone is different, Dreamy. I generally don't (and didn't AT ALL for over 7 years) eat refined sugar in any form. Other than that, I eat what tastes good and is good for me. :)

Yes, didn't have any issues with coffee or tea. Tea especially was really helpful with digestion and "getting things started" (eating) in the morning. So glad I didn't have to give up coffee, I'm an addict.
Taste buds totally changed. To this day anything even remotely sweet turns my gut. Made it a little difficult to get the protein shakes down at first, but I powered through. lol

I feel like my month-old VSG is treating me pretty well - I fill up with comparably little food to before, but I've had an easy time with getting things down, slightly ahead of schedule. I could have fully scrambled eggs (in the microwave, done softly with some skim milk) at about 3.5 weeks out. I had Wendy's chilli last weekend. I generally have cheese, of the light variety every day, but yesterday I had about 15g of Jarlsberg for the taste, and I was fine with that. I didn't feel I needed more. I'm not having anything naughtier than that - why risk it? I guess VSG are less likely to dump, but for me I want to lose weight just as speedily as is healthily possible, so I'm going to stay away from slider foods.
I haven't had any caffeine yet, but I was never a regular drinker of a morning coffee.
Oh, and Karen is so right - EVERYTHING tastes sweeter!

I can't have anything liquid sugar. Which is fine, I shouldn't anyway. But I tried a light frappuchino, and real ice cream (and sugar-free ice cream sets me off too) and I dump. Oh well. There's more in life!
Surgery March 23/2011. Completed three full marathons and two half marathons, two half Ironman distances. Completed my first Full Ironman distance (4 km swim, 180 km bike, 42.2 km (full marathon) run) in Muskoka August 30/2015. Next Ironman Lake Placid July 23/2017!
Oh ugh - the NSA ice cream made me puke. A LOT.

I'm not a coffee drinker at all (I mean, AT ALL), never was. But had a sip of my husband's cappuccino on vacation and even though I never liked the taste of coffee, it somehow hit me okay, so I got one, and stirred a little bit of sugar into it, not much. (In most of the places we went, no one had sweetener - I don't think it's as popular in certain parts of Europe as it is here.)
Anyhow, even though I don't have a problem having more sugar than that in other things - the occasional bite of dessert from someone else's plate, etc. - and even though there is probably more fat in a meat dish I have no problem with eating - after having a small cup of cappuccino with just a little bit of sugar, I felt quite ill.
It's a good thing, really. Keeps me behaving. But I was very surprised. And I thought it was probably because it is liquid so it hits fast. So your post confirms my suspicion that this is probably why!

Thanks to all for sharing. I haven't had refined sugar for a year now and don't miss it but lots of things still taste sweet to me! I think "no sugar" is a good idea and I was glad to hear that someone has stuck to the "no refined sugar" for 7 years now! I hope to do the same, one day at a time. Thanks again to all for sharing.

My decision to avoid refined sugar was actually extremely easy. The less you eat, the less you want. Like carbs. Well, I guess it is a carb. I only had refined sugar because my liver specialist told me to "smarten up and eat goddamnit" when I was ill last year and needed to gain weight.
I really don't miss it at all :) Good for you for abstaining.
