bone density
So i went to the doctor today and finally remembered to mention to him that I need a base line bone density test done(Im 10 months out, but don't see my GP very often). He didn't disagree with me needing the test but he said that some hospitals won't do it because I don't meet the regular minimum age for said test (I turn 30 in a month). Has anyone else under the age of 50 been given trouble getting the test done? I just assumed because of it being medically necessary that we keep on top of this stuff that it was just automatically put through?!?
My GP made sure I had a baseline bone density test before surgery. I had no issues at all. My GP put the forms through, the hospital booked my appointment and I had it done. Easy peasy. I haven't had a follow up yet, but it's probably not necessary for another year or two. You definitely want to get the baseline in ASAP, some people truly are 'bigger-boned' and it's not always easy to see by looking at the test if someone is experiencing an issue. They really need that baseline to compare it to.
If you had a Malabsorptive procedure you are at risk for possibly developing osteo or bone issue. This is one issue that I disagree with some centres on.
Some say don't take calcium and many don't tell patients to get a bmd test done. Calcium deficiencies rarely show up in bloodwork. Your body will always get what calcium it needs. It will steal it from your bones
