Hi,

Has anyone attended the post op class in Ottawa?  If so, what is discussed?

Regards,

Kelly

Is that the class that you attend about 6 weeks post-op? Yes. I did that in April of this year.

Essentially it was a class with dietitians who discussed how we were doing with vitamins, food preparation, how we were doing since surgery, if we had any problems or questions, anything we needed help resolving, etc. I attended with only one other person (a very small class indeed!) and the dietitians were very happy with both of us. We'd been doing well, and really didn't have any major problems. They discussed physical changes and emotional issues. They asked about our support network, and whether we were experiencing any problems with people in our lives as a result of the surgery.

It was good, but I didn't learn a whole lot per se. Essentially, given that we were both doing well, the primary message was, "Keep on truckin'. You're doing great."

The class lasted about an hour with the two of us... or maybe an hour and 15 mins. Because there were only two though, we felt that we could speak up and chat more freely. I doubt we would have done that in a larger class, so it worked out for us. Good luck with your class!

I was the only person there. Complete waste of my time (1+ hour drive in, unpaid day off work, $$ gas & parking) to be honest. Literally, 2 minute meeting to say "doing great, keep it up". Probably if I had questions, would've been helpful. I'm fortunate to have this wonderful forum as a resource I've never been back since; check my blood work regularity with my family Dr.

One of the things the centres do is keep records and stats of all of us. When you do not go back they do not have this resource. So the next time you are wondering about the success in Ontario of WLS think of the fact that some people do not contribute to the stats.

Sorry it did not work out for you

Im going for mine on June 11th at Sudbury. They told me I would see the dietitian and the nurse. It is a classroom visit as well.

Hi Kelly

when I went for mine at Humber in 2012 there were about 15 of us around the table, the dietician went through a series of slides and we also talked and compared notes, I think it was the most informative meeting I've been at.
