vitamins on optifast
Should I be taking any multivitamin while on opti?? I start opti in 2 weeks and just wondering if I am supposed to be taking a multivitamin or anything else while on optifast? The surgeon's office never told me anything and the handout sheet about the opti they gave me never said anything.. so i was just wondering it is something i should be doing or not.
Thanks,
Michelle
I continued to take B12 and D until the night before surgery, because I was low on D before PATTS and because I have had to take B12 since a different surgery in 2005. However I had to check all this with the pharmacist at my PATTS appt.

yes i know I have low D too.. so maybe i should stay on that.. I think I will call the bariatric clinic just to make sure that what im doing is correct..
Also.. HOW ARE YOU FEELING?! must be nice to be on the loser's bench :))
When in doubt: call the clinic! Never a bad choice.
It is nice to be on the bench! Just super weird to be given "free reign" on full liquids after Opti. So I'm trying to stick with the suggested meal plans from my centre, more or less. I made about 10 alarms on my phone to make sure I get all my vitamins in! Thanks for asking :)
At the Civic they say you do not need to take them as the opti has all the nutrition you need, but that if you want to keep taking them just to stay in the habit that is ok. They advised not to take anything with vitamin c while you are on opti as it has been linked to kidney stones. Hope that helps.
Certain vitamins like omegas are not to be taken a month prior to surgery. Dr Glazer pulled me off all my vitamins for my three weeks of opti. I was worried that I would need them thinking I would feel crappy, but I was great!
I know all my surgeries I have had to stop all my vitamins and some meds, depending of course on what they were (like aspirin or blood thinners).
