Wait a year or get it done now....

Hi guys,  haven't been here in a while but i'm back....  My name is Anne, i'm 40 yrs. old, i have 5 kids and 1 grand son.  I was sleeved on Oct.11th 2011 by dr.Atlas at Sacre Cœur in Montréal.  I lost 110 lbs in about a year but I have been vomiting everyday since my surgery...  Also, I have since gained 35 lbs back !!!  Now my surgeon wants to do a revision to Bypass but I since moved to Ontario and Ontario won't cover for my surgery in Montréal...  So, what should I do?   Either I wait 1 yr or more to get surgery here in Ontario because I have to start the process all over again, or take 10,000$ and get it done now in Mexico?   I just can't keep vomiting like I do all the time anymore....   What should I do????  Please help me !!!

P.S.  I live just an hour away from Ottawa but I don't know who to talk to or who are the surgeons in Ottawa.

Thank you

Anne

I don't know that I have advice for you, Anne, but I can tell you that the surgeons in Ottawa are incredible.

I had Dr. Jean-Denis Yelle do my VSG in February this year. I found him to be extremely knowledgeable and an excellent surgeon. I knew I was in good hands.

I hear great things about Dr. Neville and Dr. Mamazza as well. I'm sure others can speak to their own experiences.

Is the reason for the revision because of the frequent vomiting? I wonder why you are vomiting though. I know GERD can be a problem for those with VSG; I'm taking a prescription acid-reducer daily to ensure that I don't vomit and irritate the lining of my new sleeved tummy.

Regardless, I hope you can find a solution. Maybe a consultation with the Ottawa docs would get you an answer? I wonder what they would say about your issues. They may have some ideas... you never know.

Hi Anne,

Would it help if your doctor from Montreal sent a letter to the bariatric centre in Ontario?  I wonder if that would help to fast track things.  I am sure that throwing up all the time is not considered normal and I would hope that this would speed up the process.  When I moved from Alberta to Ontario, the surgeon I saw in Alberta referred me directly to a surgeon in Ontario and I did not need to start over from square one.

Good luck and I hope you get answers soon.

Contact the Ottawa Weight Loss Clinic (their phone # is 613 761-5101 or their website is: www.weightclinic.ca
They will be the best to know what you will have to do in your situation.  It may be the whole process, or it may not.

I really suggest you try to get the referrals and help you need in Ontario because the medical and emotional support available with the program is so important to your health and success. I know a couple of ladies personally that have gone to Mexico with self pay and it has not been so great. Wishing you all the best for a solution and better health.

Personally I would not do anything surgically until your current issue is resolved.    (The throwing up).   Your surgeon should send information to Ontario.  I'd get a referral to dr reed or whoever to deal with the throwing up issue. That should be priority one, not a revision.

If the vomiting is caused by gerd, the only solution is likely a revision to RNY. Gerd is a common side effect of VSG, and a significant percentage end up revising to bypass to get it fixed.

If you do not get the acid/throwing up stopped, it will most likely lead to esophageal cancer. Do whatever it takes to get it taken care of.
