The Numbers Game

No, this isn't about the scale ;)

I'm interested in finding out from everyone on their intake numbers.

I haven't been able to find any info how many calories, carbs, fat, etc, that I should be aiming for. My centre seems to only be concerned about my protein intake, but since I'm getting 70-90g a day, I figured it wouldn't hurt to control the other levels.

I am 2.5 months out and have My Fitness Pal set to 900 calories. That gives me 90g of protein, 30g of fat,  and 68g of carbs. I am almost always under all of those.

The only problem with MFP is that its not designed for Bariatric users. Are these number appropriate for me?

At this point getting the protein in is the main goal. You are probably not able to get in a lot of calories. Stick with your centres plan and avoid refined carbs and sugars and you will do great. When you are closer to maintenance work with your dietitian to decide what is best for you. It will depend on your age height and other factors

Thanks Pat.

I am completely able to get in the calories. I have been blessed/cursed with having a very easy time with zero issues.

I am following the guideline to the T, but since I have passed into the "Eating for Life" stage,  my menu is constantly including new food. This is why I am looking for a little more info.

I'm 3 months out & I just focus on protein, low fat, low carb, low sugar. I ignore the calories and go for 80-100 gm protein

I only focused on protein for the first six months.  At the six month follow-up, the dietician and I then set some numbers based on my height and, more importantly, activity level.  It seems to have worked!

Here is some info from my 3 month follow-up appt. that I shared on here before:

Today I had my 3 month (by date) follow-up appt. and here is a rundown of what happened: First I saw the Nutritionist. She says I am doing great on my eating, just need to incorporate more carbs and fibre. Nutritionist said I should be getting at least 90g of Carbs, 14-25g of Fibre and 60-90g of Protein everyday. I am excellent for Protein, but not the others. She recommended at least 2 servings of fruit per day to help with the fibre intake. She recommend juicy fruits, like oranges, grapes, etc. so that it would add to my fluid intake as well. It was discussed that I would consume all of these nutrients by eating 5-6 small meals each day. I basically eat about every 2-3 hours throughout the day, otherwise, I start to feel sick (I believe this is my new hungry feeling). I decided to share this information, because I thought it might help others that are about 13 weeks out, with the amounts of carbs, fibre and protein that they need. I know that I have been so focused on protein that everything else gets left behind. Also, as a lifelong dieter, I have in my head that carbs are bad, when really, they can be our friend, lol! She also recommended 900-1200 cals per day, depending on whether or not I was able to exercise that day (900 on a non-exercise day & up to 1200 on an exercise day). I hope this helps :) I know every centre is different, but, this has been working for me :) Good luck!

Thank you! I was hoping someone would post numbers. Protein is king, but I knew the other numbers are important too. I haven't been looking at Fibre, but I will now ;)

You can customize your goals on MFP to suit your requirements.

I have mine set for 800 calories, 90g of protein, 36g of fat and 30g of carbs.
