I am in week 2 of my Optifast pre op diet and I was wondering if anyone else has been bothered by smells?  I cook for my hubby and I have had to cut back on spices and I mean really cut back.  Forget garlic it just turns my stomach  and I love garlic but wow not the smell.  Is this normal and will I get over it?

I also became very sensitive to smells during Opti and for the first month following surgery. It has pretty much gone away now (I'm about 2 months post-op). Hang in there!

I didn't have an issue with smells until after surgery, but I could have sworn I could even smell people, let alone cooking smells. Going by coffee shops was torture, and anyone who'd just eaten something greasy had to get away from me :p It does go away though - I wonder if it's linked to hormones being released from burning fat? It was like I had pregnancy nose!

Well good luck with your's. Wonder why you are at St. Joseph's in Toronto and I am at HRRH. I understand it goes by postal code, they probably think that because I am actually in Buckhorn that I am some Northener...LOL   Maybe we could meet before our surgery?

YES!  I was just saying to my mom that I think because I've lost my sense of taste (temporarily), my sense of smell is heightened!  My daughter was eating a donut in the back seat this morning, and I swear it smelled like I was in a bakery!
