What to pack for the hospital?

Hi all,

My surgery is coming up in just over 2 weeks. I start opti-fast on Friday and I am nervous as all get-out!

I am starting to prepare for my journey to TO and wondering what I should bring to the hospital? Is there something that you were glad that you packed, or something that you wish you had with you?

My orientation booklet says "sturdy shoes" with grips, but I can't imagine trying to tie up running shoes after surgery :)

Any tips/advice is appreciated!

Amy

My surgery is April 2nd so I am getting my bag ready too! So far, I am taking Slippers (with a good tread), Chapstick, toothbrush, toothpaste and mouthwash, facial wipes, shampoo and conditioner, pads, all my meds, cpap machine and my cell phone! Not sure what else to take either so looking forward to the replies on here. Are you staying at a Hotel after surgery or do you live close enough to go home?

Hello, there Discodiva. I see you did your sleep study in Cobourg, I did mine at the place close to Humber that Dr. Glazier uses, amazing place. My husband was allowed to sleep with me and it was like  a fancy hotel room. I was amazed! But to the reason why I am posting you, with seeing you went to Cobourg was wondering where you are from? I live in Buckhorn. Was wondering if you lived near by?

For me, I was glad I packed Chapstick, wipes, nice smelling lotion & my own pillow. I packed pajamas which I never even used. Just make sure the footwear is something warm and that you're able to just slip your foot into. For sure pack very very loose pants for the trip home. I too advised my family not to send flowers (they sent them home instead); as my hubby had enough to carry/support me on departure day. Also, the stress of surgery triggered an earlier than usual 'monthly' arrival, was glad I packed feminine supplies for that. Best of luck to you...a year out and I am over the moon with my results

- chapstick

- slippers, non slip

- cel phone and charger

- something to read, book or magazines

- I took shampoo, conditioner, hair brush, tooth paste and brush ... I had a shower before I left the hospital

- loose clothing. I took clothes I didn't care about any longer

- I also took my paperwork from the classes and whatnot, I'm glad I did.. they kept trying to feed me foods I couldn't eat... I'm sure that they have gotten better over the last few yrs but I like to be prepared anyways

- if you use a cpap machine .. take it too

- make sure you take pads with you as well... many women get their "monthly friend"

Good luck :)

BELOW GOAL        Happily maintaining 4.5 years out!!   Life is GREAT!!!  Had my plastic surgery!

I would recommend packing cool, loose PJs. Hospital rooms are often hot and when you pair that with a plastic mattress it can make for pretty sweltering times. I find hospital gowns really uncomfortable because they have no give so if you lay down wrong you can feel like you're being strangled. I felt much better when I had had a wash with nice shower gel (just with a facecloth from the sink) and was wearing my soft summer  jammies.

Here's what I used: PJs, shower gel, toothbrush/toothpaste, lip balm, BlackBerry, iPod with calming music and guided meditation, slippers, kleenex, and a couple paperbacks. Other than my comfy clothes for going home, nothing else I brought was touched.

Things I really used

slippers and socks (feet were freezing)

my cell phone (oxygen sensor on one hand intervenes on the other made books out the question)

fluffy pillow (helped me make a nest to sleep in and good to hug on the car ride home)

my own loose jammie bottoms ( hospital gown was ridiculous)

chapstick, toothbrush (chapstick is a must)
