No gummies in Ottawa either; the sugar content is far too high, according to the dietitian.

I also was going with the idea that taking a gummie multi-vit was better than none, as this was the case for me, I couldnt do those big chewables, or liquid. And I got flack from the nurse for not taking my multi's...so I went with the gummie. They agree with me, are small and no hassle to take. But I will call the  nurse tomoro.. likely Ill get more flack lol

We were told that the Jamison chews were fine for the first few months after surgery as they are easier to take and easier to find.  Once you can take pills, the citrate is better as the carbonate doesn't absorbe as well.

There isn't a lot of choices to hide the flavor of crushed pills or liquid.  Even keeping the liquid cold doesn't help that much.  And if you look up suggestions on the net, it'll suggest putting crushed pills in things like jam (not post wls thank you).  Applesauce or yogurt will work, but you can still taste "medicine".  You can cut chewables into small enough pieces to swallow, but it means taking more pieces/pills.

One thing to note, I have noticed Rexall (mine anyways) has a section for bariatric vitimins now.  I noticed it a week or so ago when I was waiting for a prescription to be filled.

Good luck with the calcium!

Yeah the liquid is just nasty stuff, there is no masking it. I keep mine in the fridge.

The chews aren't bad, but I'm looking forward to taking the pills lol. Which ones do you buy?

I'm not an expert at dosages (never remember how much I should take of Calcium, especially when there are 2 measurements on a bottle) but I've been taking 2 Equate Brand Calcium Citrate 1,500 mg with Vitamin D plus extra Vitamin D at least twice a day.  Equate is the Wal-Mart brand.  Someone can correct me if I'm not taking the right amount.

Just read your label Cat. Even though your bottle may say 1500mg, on the ingredients, you will see elemental calcium. As long as your total elemental calcium adds up to 1500. You are good. Many will say total calcium of xxx with elemental of yyy. So just check to make sure you are getting enough

Early out, they would rather you take SOMETHING than nothing.

As soon as you are able to tolerate citrate, you need to do the switcheroo.

I have osteopenia and am the poster girl for NOT taking carbonate :)

Thank you Dawn, I was very shocked when I seen the Caltrate were the carbonate, and that is what the dietician told me to buy. I was actually kind of ticked off.

My Jamieson's do have citrate in them. As soon as I am able to tolerate the pills I will be switching no worries :-)
