Hi Michelle, after reviewing the STOP BANG questionaire my family doctor said I did not require the sleep study. I am confused, Is this an absolute requirement?

Thanks Kari

Not everyone needs one, but my BMI was too close to 50 and they made me do one... My family doctor thought I didn't need one either.  I do not have sleep apnea.

I hope you don't need one... it was the worst test I had to do.

No, a sleep study is not an absolute requirement. It really depends on a lot of factors (e.g., whether you snore, BMI, neck circumference) but your clinic will tell you if you need one for sure.

Welcome to the forums and hold tight; it's a heck of a ride! Enjoy!

Hi Kari! Welcome to the forum.  The Guelph clinic has one of the longer wait times, but everyone there is amazing and it's totally worth it!!  I had my orientation almost 15 months ago and my surgery is Tuesday! (YAY!).

My STOP-BANG said I didn't require a sleep test and that was good enough for the clinic.  The only thing I can recommend is that once you get into booking appointments you can call occasionally (every few weeks) to see if there have been any cancellations, so that you get your appointments done sooner.  This was actually told to me by one of the fantastic women working at the clinic.  Other than that, I think you just have to be patient.  Trust me, it will go way faster than you think!

Good luck!
