Inner ear troubles

Has anyone experienced any inner ear troubles from losing weight quickly? I have been extremely light headed, seeing? dark spots..some times just walking around feels like I am rocking on a boat(makes exercise nearly impossible). I went to my GP, he gave me some betahistine. took it for 24 hours and the only thing it did was added nausea into the mix. I also had a throat infection so I am on a dose of meds for that.  everything else seems to be checking out fine I am feeling mildly better but certainly not well. I made many calls last week and well Humber Clinic didn't seem to want to talk to me (like usual just a freakin number) and said I was fine. Been playing phone tag with Dr. Huynh and never actually got to speak with him. Not looking for medical advice just wondered if anyone has had symptoms similar? I have also been having some lower abdominal pains in my intestine..but I have had those for a long time and I am not convinced they are related.

You mention that you have a throat infection, if this is due to your ears, you could have a sinus or ear infection as well.  You should also get your blood pressure checked, low blood pressure can can cause lightheadedness and vision problems.  If it changes at all after you eat, then it could be sugar issues.  When you are talking to either Dr. Huynh or your GP, tell them about your abdominal pains, it may not be related, but it does need to be looked at.

Good luck,

Cathy

huynh is looking after the stomach pain(ultrasound done..scope being rescheduled). labs done in january were all normal. I have been keeping an eye on my blood pressure and it doesnt seem to be that. i asked my gp to get a glucose monitor and he didnt take my concerns seriously..so i will ask Huynh when I talk to him. I really hope its just related to my throat..it has been 4 days..throat feels better..ears not so much but still 6 days of meds left!

I have a friend who was experience lightheadedness when standing quickly. For her, it turned out to be that something in her inner ears had shifted, and was affecting her balance. I don't remember the exact details, but she did see a specialist who performed some balance tests and did some sort of adjustment that fixed things for her. So, your infection *could* be related.

Do you get confused as well? could be your sugars. I'm sorry your GP didn't take your concerns seriously. I would check them with a monitor. I had diabetes before surgery, so I already had a monitor. At 9 months I started having issues. I was tested for hypoglycemia and do have sugar issues. It seems to have evened out, but it was awhile before everything settled. I still have dizzy, confusion/anger issues once in awhile, and i'll start shaking too.

I had some issues with this too.  This past summer, it was happening every time I stood up.  Was not a sugars issue for me, but I think just a body adjustment/blood pressure issue (and really, a momentary blood pressure issue lasting only a few seconds).  I'm told it's fairly common in those that have lost a lot of weight.  But do be careful.  I did pass out a couple of times.  I have learnt that when I feel dizzy after standing, I just bend over slightly, and the dizziness resolves almost immediately.  The dizzy spells don't happen nearly as often anymore, but do still occur on occasion.

Not saying that this is your issue, but could be...

When I raised it with my Centre, they also told me to make sure I was getting enough salt in my diet, especially as I work out quite a bit.  Given that I don't eat a lot of pre-packaged foods, and I don't add a lot of salt to things, this is something I had to adjust as well.

Good luck!
