Knee pain using Voltaren

I'd like some advice on using Voltaren for knee pain.

I have been doing 55 minutes daily on the treadmill and I really suffering for it.

I know we are not to use NSAIDS but is there any risk using an ointment? I would assume some of it is absorbed in the system but has anyone been given the green light to use this? If not, what do you use...my poor knees thank you for your guidance!

I was told by Dr. Reed to use absolutely no analgesic rubs at all.  They are absorbed into the skin and cause ulcers.

I am using Voltaren for my back and it works wonders. It is more of a muscle relaxant though, so might not on your knees, that could be arthritis. There is a very strong agent in Voltaren though (Declofenac) so I still use it no more than a week at a time in severe cases

We aren't supposed to use Voltaren or items like that. I was given the okay to use menthol based products like Deep Relief. I have a bad knee and shoulder and use this product fairly regularly on both and it seems to help. I have also used the Life Brand icy patches.

I believe because it's an NSAID and those drugs can cause ulcers in our pouches. I wasn't sure if it was included as it's not taken internally but from what folks have posted here, we should not be using them.

You will absorb the medication into your blood stream and create an ulcer in your pouch and possibly your bowel. We cannot use any form of NSAIDs after RNY (oral or topical). Items like Voltaren are analgesics which are NSAIDs. Check with your centre before using these types of products. We can use things like Icy Hot, Deep Relief, etc. because they are menthol based products, not analgesics.

I also use tylenol arthritis twice a day. It seems to help with the joint pain.
