Day 6 post op...
Good morning everyone.
As the title says today is day 6 for me and I have to tell you the thoughts of eating breakfast right now doesn't appeal to me, infact the thoughts of eating makes me feel nauseated. I know it's important to eat...obviously ;) but how do I get passed this? I've already been up almost two hours and I was hoping this would pass but it hasn't. I have to eat the Prevacid with pudding or applesauce 30 minutes before I can eat.
Should I just try to stick to water and broth on these days? I don't want to fail this.
Help any suggestions are appreciated.
Kim
Hi Kim,
This last week hasn't been too bad as far as getting my diet down more so the amount that I am supposed to. I think it is important to try full fluids so that you can get some calories and even more importantly, some protein down. I have been drinking at least 1 protein shake (premiere from Costco ) with 30 grams of protein and then mixing at least 20 grams of protein (Isolate whey from Costco--IceCream flavour) into a low sugar/low fat pudding. I find the low fat greek yogurt (vanilla) goes down easy too and you can mix the protein powder in there too. Just some ideas.
I hope your nausea passes soon and you are not going to fail at this. Your body just needs time to adjust to its new tummy.
Good luck, Tara
Your drinking one whole shake already, plus other foods as well? Oh my goodness I couldn't even imagine. I'm drinking atleast 3 - 30 ml pill cups of protein shake a day - 6 tbls. Plus 2 - 30ml soups. I'm lucky if I can get anything else in. My water as well. Yesterday's goal was to try to drink a bottle of water. I got half in.
I get uncomfortable if I do anymore foods
thank you you for your response. I'm glad your doing well!!
My advice is to listen to your new stomach. Its capacity will change as the swelling inside goes down and you'll be able to consume more. When you are, make sure they are the right things... the high protein items on your Centre's guidelines.
Good luck and hang in there! Keeping sipping as much as you can!!! The ability to "eat" will follow!

Thank you so much for responding. I just did what I could yesterday.
Due to having some severe pain yesterday I ended up having to make the trek to Humber. The sharp pains were so severe it was taking my breath away at times. They said it was normal, and everyone experiences it differently. With me also having the gall bladder out at the same time my pain could be worse then it would if just having the RNY. He prescribed me oxycodone for the pain. All my bloodwork came back good, so that was a relief as well. Means I'm drinking enough. :-)
I'm feeling better this morning, other then my tummy being tender from them poking and prodding at me. The nurse really pi$$ed me off when she was pushing on my stomach, it was to the left where they do the work. I grabbed a hold of her hand and shoved it away. I know they have to examine me, but come on lady the first two times were sufficient!! RANT OVER LOL
Thanks again, how are you doing these days? Hope your doing well!
