It's What you Eat
I dont want to respond to any post directly.....most of what I am going to say was not taken well when I used to respond to posts a year ago on this subject.....I was called non-supportive.....which really I dont particularly care what anyone's opinion of me is......I just couldnt be bothered to try to help "experts" with 2 mintues of experience
This is my opinion only.....take it or leave it
IT'S WHAT YOU EAT
- I dont know too many successful long termers who made it to goal consuming a too high carb to protein ratio
- exercise is great for your overall health and well being....and studies suggest muscles burn more calories during the day then fat....HOWEVER.....what you eat is the key ingrediant to successful weight loss
- some people take longer to get "there".....some take 2 even 3 years to get to goal.......the easiest time to achieve your goal weight is to work like the devil the first 6 months.....and dont let up the next 12 months......
- you dont get a second chance at that first 6 months
- there is nothing "balanced" about weight loss surgery.....so dont try to eat that "balanced" diet that the nut wants you to eat.....save that balanced diet until after you reach goal
-dont count "net".....your exercise "calories" burned are bonus.....and IMO "net" carbs are BS......count the full carb count when figuring it out......
- Dont graze....its wls death
- complex carbs ( beans- lentils - green veggies etc etc) are great.....in moderation as their protein count is lower then animal protein......
- if you are eating 80 - 100 grams of protein every day.....spaced out appropriately.....you should have little room for non-essentials.....( as long as you dont graze)
I truly feel sorry for those who dont make goal....struggling to get there because their centre wants them to eat a balanced diet ........CARBS are the number one reason people dont make it to goal......and the number one reason people have re-gain......closely followed by sugar
Yes its boring.....tough......etc etc....but its not forever.....and there are no do-overs for that magical first 6 months.....and the pretty good 12 months that follow for easiest weight loss....
Again....my opinion only
In your opinion, what do you think a daily intake of carbs should be in the first 6 mths? Under 30? Under 50?
I agree!!
I worked "like the devil" for the first 6months and lost 100lbs and continued to do that for 6months after! I lost a total of 115.
I kept my carbs LOW and my protein HIGH for about that whole year. I didn't find it really boring, I was able to explore different foods and learned to make new things. I generally listened to my NUT, BUT on the other hand, I kept eating the way I knew I should... LOW carbs, HIGH protein; she said as long as I was eating and getting in my required amounts for the day, then that was ok.
I am glad I listened to you, and other Vet's on here! It helped get me to where I am today! :D
BELOW GOAL Happily maintaining 4.5 years out!! Life is GREAT!!! Had my plastic surgery!
Thank you for your words - it's best to hear from someone who's been there and done that and who is willing to share. Coddling oneself with food, got me into the mess that I am in.
I am nervous as hell that I won't maximize my precious 6 months wisely. I am doing my treadmill daily, logging/measuring food, packing lunches and snacks, preplanning meals and trying to make the best choices.
One thing I do know is, because I had no knowledge of food, because I was mobidly obese - I need to log my food...fitnesspal or whatever, use it.
If you're reading this and thinking how can I do this....track your food - the numbers don't lie!
