Hi, I have never had surgery before, so I was wondering how do you shower with your incisions. Do you cover them with something, ect... Am I allowed to shower the day after surgery? I am very adiment about showering every day, sometime twice as being a bigger person I find there is this odor that can develop if not careful. Please let me know thank you.

I showered the next day after surgery. You just can't bathe or swim until the steri strips fall off and your incisions have fully closed.

I was at Guelph. I wasn't offered a shower. I was given face clothes and towel so I could wash myself up in the washroom though (twice a day). I had brought my own soap from home so all was good. The day I was discharged I asked about a shower and they were just waiting to see if the surgeon would allow it. I washed up in the bathroom again just incase he was against it. When he came in I was discharged and went home. I had a shower at home instead.

I had a back surgery and was afraid to ge****er on it. Had a sponge bath the next day when I got home, then had showers without turning back to it ;) and just washed the back by hand, then got less paranoid and started taking normal showers in about a week.

I was through Guelph and I had a shower the second day and I was told to avoid letting the direct spray from the shower head spray on my incisions.  I aimed the water on my upper chest and the water flowed gently over my incisions.

I was able to shower on Day 3...it felt so good! I do know others that showered the next day. I recommend bringing baby wipes for sure to the hospital...it feels so refreshing even to do a quick wipe down in the bathroom (I also brought some nice smelling lotion). By day 6; my follow up appointment my surgery sites had pretty much dried up.

I had a shower before I left the hospital on the morning of Day 3. Avoid hitting your incisions directly with the shower spray and pat dry. A travel pack of baby wipes are a good thing to add to your packing list too!
