I would say you definitely need one.
I got a good one that can give lbs, ounces, gms etc. It also has a tare function that will eliminate the weight of the dish you're measuring in.
I also bought a small meat loaf pan, tiny fry pan and even a small whisk to whip my eggs in a one cup measure.
I use baby spoons for yogurt, cottage cheese etc. It limits my food and makes me aware of how much I am eating.
I use mine everyday.

The race isn't given to the swift nor the strong, but it's given to the ones who endure it to the end...
I was never one to use a scale, although my clinic gave me a wonderful large magnet that showed me what a serving of different foods was. Although I did measure in the beginning 1/4 cups of food items..or tablespoons..even now at 5 years post-op...I still measure out my rice
prior to surgery 323lbs....4 years post-op maintaining between 108- 114 lb loss.
life is AMAZING when you continue on the right path~!. Use your surgeons gift to the fullest~!
