I think it depends on your surgeon. I am a psw and my surgeon said that I should be able to go back to work after 2 weeks if I am getting all of my water in. The most he was willing to give me was 3 weeks. I took a fourth week of do to some appointments and paperwork that my work wants filled out. I am only a week out of surgery but I think I should be good to go back by the fourth week. Hope this helps. :)

Dr Hagen has been very supportive with whatever i needed.  My Occ health consultant at work suggested 8-12 weeks with return modified  and i am doing it.  she has seen many of my colleagues self pay in mexico and come back way to quickly so I am taking at least 8 weeks post op and will probably return part time for a bit.  Right now Im uncomfortable but the exhaustion is unbelieveable.  I came up for a shower this am, after breakfast, saw my bed and crawled in.  My hubby woke me up 3 hours later.

I'm a nurse and took 6 weeks then 4 on modified, and the first weeks were brutal, very tired. My centre was worried about a hernia if I went back to early.

I am a full time PSW in a nursing home.  My surgeon Dr. Natasha Perriera-hong gave me 4 weeks maximum and said if I need more time off I'd have to talk to my family doctor. Honestly, I had no pain whatsoever after the surgery, was able to do everything around the house so 4 weeks were plenty.  I probably could have returned to work after 2 wks.  I also had RNY.  The only thing you shouldn't do is stretching ie: yoga type exercises.

I am an RN. I went back after 3 weeks and did ok. I was tired and nauseated off and on but it wasn't too bad. It was kind of like working with morning sickness when you are pregnant.

Thank you so much to everyone that replied. I am asking because I literally just started a new job today and I will be going in for surgery very soon. It is doing home care, I am hoping I won't need too much time off. I feel bad but I'm not putting the surgery off. Hopefully I will only need 4 weeks max. I will have to see what my surgeon says.

Thanks again!!

I wudnt even try before 4 weeks, as psw's do a lot of physical work and you are still healing on the inside.

i have a desk job and took the full 6 weeks because i felt really weak from not eating/drinking enough.

Thank you dragongirl, I will speak with my surgeon and see what he says. I don't want to take a lot of time off, but I don't want to rush either and end up hurting myself.
