Surgery date

Hello everyone:)  I'm new to this site & this is my first post.  I just have a question about how quickly people got their surgery dates from the Ottawa hospital?  I met with the surgeon on Jan.6th - signed my consent, did my blood work & got my hospital card - but I haven't heard a thing since:(  I'm a little disappointed!

Sorry to break this to you but don't be in a rush. I had my surgeon's appointment on Dec 3rd and just called to see what progress was happening and the person on the other end of the line nearly started yelling at me that they couldn't tell me anything, etc, etc. I was finally put through, after asking and asking who else I could speak to, to the NP who was helpful and nice and she told me to call back in 10 days or so if I haven't heard anything. I have read posts on here claiming that Ottawa is the longest wait time and I believe it, I have been waiting 14 months so far with no clear indication if this is even going to happen. Sorry for the long post, just very frustrated, maybe you will have better luck!

I waited 3 yrs for surgery!!   but once I met with the surgeon it was only 1 week before I got the call and I had surgery 4 weeks after that.

Wow seems like everyone's experience is different and wait time certainly varies. It is what it is. One piece of information I did receive from Ottawa was that it could be anywhere from 3 weeks to 3 months before they set your surgery date.

We are there with you trying to be patient also. I have found that this is a hurry up and wait process sometimes. It will happen, it is the not knowing just when that is tough. Also can't go by what is happening with others because there seems to be so much variance in wait times, number of pre-op tests, etc. Best of luck going forward. :)

I am meeting with the sugeon March 3 and they told me it could be 3-5 months before I got the surgery 

I too am in Ottawa at OWMC and I have been told that the surgical team meets at the beginning of each month to discuss surgeries for the following month. 

So for example, next week is the beginning of February. They will probably meet next week sometime to plan out the March surgeries. 

I found that is pretty much how it worked with my schedule. If you meet with the surgeon after early January, keep in mind that February surgeries are already planned. And that you will need three weeks of Opti prior to surgery as well. So you might hear next week or the week after about a March surgery date and/or an Opti start date.

i hope this makes sense. Hang in there. They are always so busy but rarely does stuff get too lost in the shuffle.

I am in Ottawa too and met with the Surgeon on Dec 10th and still haven't heard anything. It's a long wait:(
