Goal Weight

is that discussed with surgeon only or with dieticians as well ? Going through tickers and discussions, I see a lot of discrepancy with people of my height and then there were discussions that surgeons suggest realistic weight of roughly 80% loss. I was suggested exactly what I had in mind except for the 10 pounds I had in mind out of pure vanity, that's the last low weight I remember from my high school prom.  Do they go by health and age or just bmi charts on healthy weight ? Really confused

I think they base it on your BMI. The nurse gave me a goal of 170 lbs (I am 5'2"). I think I would like to be about 150 lbs... normal bmi for me is 130 lbs. I have no idea what I will feel and look like... going to see how it goes. I also worry about regain. I think if I find a happy weight I may go slightly under it, in case of regain. Any ideas on your plan? Michelle

well, i am 5'9. Last low weight was 130 (20 years ago !), Dr. Sohi gave me 146, consulting the bmi chart. Now I am wondering if the nurse will have different number in mind and whether I have to just agree to it or there is a discussion that takes place.I have always done weight training, can't do cardio for the life of me, so just going by scale would be misleading any way.

I spoke to the nurse practitioner regarding my goal weight etc. When we talked she asked me what goal weight I had in mind and she told me she felt I would have no problem reaching it. However, I chose a very realistic weight goal that I knew I would feel comfortable and happy with and I am happy to say that I have reached that goal and anything over is a bonus.

When they discuss weight lose they do discuss that you usually will only loose 80 percent of your excess weight. If you loose more then that that's also great and yes your age, height etc. do come into play.

thank you, that makes sense. I am just thinking that there are some expectations on follow-ups, right, if you are losing the way the expect you to

My goal weight of 180 is purely from me, where I remember feeling good. I'm 5'8" and I am big-boned. I got down to 170 as an adult and felt I looked too gaunt. My bariatric centre goes purely by BMI so as long as you've moved from "obese" to "overweight" they are happy with your progress. I just crossed that bridge (yay!) but would still like to lose some more to give some wiggle room for any bounce back that may occur once I go onto maintenance.

Good luck to you!
