Green Smoothie

My first time trying a green smoothie. Made it myself, in my magic bullet...no fancy blender or juicer. I am trying this for 2 reasons...1.) To boost my vitamins and 2.) to boost my fiber
Good news is it's not as disgusting as I imagined it would be and I think I can actually drink these regularly, lol. It also didn't cost a fortune.
Ok so recipe if anyone else want to try this
About 3 kale Leaves...stem on (but I remove the super thick stem near the bottom just because it yucks me out, lol)
1/4 cup frozen blueberries (FYI blueberries go on sale at No Frills tomorrow for $1. Grab a few, throw them in a ziplock bag and put em in the freezer)
1/4 Fresh real pineapple (you can use canned but be super sure it is not the kind with added sugar and use only the pineapple not the juice)
1 to 1 1/2 cup water depending on your preference and how big your blender is.
Blend for 2-3 minutes...drink.
You can't taste the Kale, it mostly tastes like pineapple. I mean listen, it's not like drinking a vanilla milkshake, lol, but it's not going to make you gag
I didn't add any protein because I thought it would be gross mixing the 2. I drink my protein in the morning and one of these at night, or vise versa.
If you try it, let me know what you think
This sounds great - I wonder if you added fresh ginger if that would mask the kale even more? Or how about adding some mango slices? I noted atulfo mangos in the stores a lot lately and they are amazing. Thank you for posting this LittleMiss!

So basically you are drinking pineapple and blueberry....( 3 kale leaves arent much)
I dont think this a particularly good drink nutrition wise....too much sugar...albeit natural - but its still sugar......
Honestly.....I believe you would be better to take an apple or orange and eat it.....or steam or grill up some veggies to eat ...
Drinking goes right thru us......even soup passes thru quickly.....( so drink the broth first and eat the remains after)
Its great you are trying to improve your nutrition.....but I believe there are better ways to do it

The stats are - 81 Calories. 18 Carbs, 1 fat, 3 protein, 4 fiber, 7 sugar for the entire thing and it makes 2 normal cup sized servings.....so you would divide those numbers in half. Or one pretty big serving and you can leave the numbers as they are. I share mine with my 7 yr old daughter but she only drinks 1/3 of it, her cup is small =)
I have dumping syndrome and I can't eat sugar. I was concerned the pineapple would cause me to dump, however for some reason...it doesn't. It's a low amount when divided into 2 servings...in my case I drank 2/3 a serving and was fine.
I have very large Kale leaves, basically the "Kale" portion fills 2/3 of the blender or Magic bullet in my case, so it is 2/3 Kale....packed down. Also because it hasn't been "Juiced"....meaning the juice extracted and the pulp tossed aside, but instead the entire fruit&veg has been blended and consumed I don't find it goes through me at all so far.
You could add apple, orange or other things in place of the pineapple if you prefer. Pineapple has a strong flavor and is good and providing natural sweetness to the drink and masking the "green" flavor. Blueberries are high in antioxidants and easily frozen. I am trying to stay away from "acidic" drinks or foods because the dr's think I might have an ulcer. My beloved Crystal Light I just realized the first ingredient is "Citric Acid". I only noticed this after continuing to drink it and being stumped as to WHY it was burning more when I drank my flavored water than even coffee. SO I am taking a break from it for awhile.
I also have major issues in other areas so I am hoping this will help. If you are concerned about sugar you can add apple instead or half a banana is even better (which I do switch back and forth between banana and pineapple) because it is also a strong flavor. Anyway, it might not be for everybody, but I enjoyed it and I really did feel great after I drank it
