sleep study

My doctor had booked me if for a sleep study almost 6 mths ago and I had heard nothing. I had another doctors appointment this week and had her re-fax the referral in, and indicating on the form that the patient is hoping to have bariatric surgery. Not 3 hrs later the hospital calls me and the secretary is a bit snippy and informs me that it usually takes a year to get the appointment (is this true?? I am in Kingston and I am sure I have seen some signature lines of persons who had sleep studies done and they were not even a year from start to finish). Any ways, she said she had an appointment cancellation for Monday which I said I'd be happy to take. I thought I would go right in to the clinic for the overnight study, but this is just an appointment to meet with the sleep study dr. Has anyone particularly in Kingston gone thru this and if so, how long was it between the initial appointment and the actual sleep test? Also, is there a long wait after the sleep test for the follow up. Would appreciate any info on this.
Not sure about Kingston but Ottawa for me usually takes maybe 2 months to get a call back, not a year. I think that is either not true or just not right. Nobody should have to wait that long for an appointment, period. Having said that, I waited 6 months for a endoscopy/colonoscopy and I was very ill at the time and needed it badly, so that was "rushing" for them. Good for you for keeping on top of things and following up on the situation. Best of luck with your apt and test!
I am through Kingston but I did not meet the sleep doctor until after my tests, meeting the sleep educator and going to medigas for appointments. Here is my timeline:

I'm from London and was told that the sleep study does take a while to get into.
I managed to find a private clinic that was still covered thru OHIP and was in right away. It turns out the guy was not reputable (Incompetency charges) and ended up going another route.
It was a pain to say the least!!!!!
Hi there
I also had to have a sleep study done. Dr. Glazer sent a referral for me to one in Toronto. There was a long wait. I called my GP on a Wednesday and they sent a referral to a local private OHIP covered clinic and I got in on Friday. It was super easy! Good luck!
