Low Iron
I have had low iron since May 2013, my family doctor had me taking 1 iron pill a day. I was retested in November 2013, and still my iron was low. I'm now taking 2 iron pills a day plus my vitamins twice a day. I go back tomorrow for another appt and am wondering if I should be asking for the iron shot or iron infusion. Does anyone know what level your iron has to be at to be able to get these?

My iron stores have been low for years. I take iron daily.
When I met with the dietitian at Ottawa's WMC, she told me to take my iron in the evening, right before I go to bed and to take it with a chewable Vitamin C pill because you absorb iron better when accompanied with Vitamin C. Taking it at night also helps with absorption she said.
I can't advise you about iron shots/infusions, sorry! But I hope this info helps. It did help me raise my iron a touch. Now instead of severely low, my levels are just a little low.

we are VERY lucky to have an iron expert in our midst. OKnee Dove is a registered nurse, and bariatric patients iron needs is her area of expertise. Here's a link to a post she's done about iron. If you're on Facebook, i can point you in her direction, i'm not sure how active she is on this forum anymore.
