Is it Just me?

Hello my friends

I am just wondering if it is just me or if anyone else has just been so confident in their decision, that I can't really describe how i am feeling.  I start Opti next week with my surgery on Jan 21.  As of now, I am not nervous or am still too far away.  It seems surreal and I am so excited about my future.  All the things that I will be able to do with my family.  Friends of ours want to go out for dinner/food funeral on Monday and I am unsure of what to have.  They suggested chinese buffet, and I am like "whatever, doesnt seem to phase me that I wont be eating that again.  My mum's friend has praised me for being pro-active with my health.  Guess I am feeling numb and i do not think that it is related to the -35 outside.  I am preparing like mad at work as they are not replacing me for my sick leave so I can not wait to see what kind of a pile is on my desk upon my return.

Anyway, I am rambling and just wondering if it is just me.

I was super calm before surgery. So very ready to start actively living my life not just from the sidelines anymore. The first 3-4 days of optifast can be a real challenge but hang in there! Best of luck!

Thanks.  I am trying to prepare for the challenge, but we will wait to see what happens.

You may get more nervous while on Optifast.  Most people get more emotional than usual while they are on it.  It's not the optifast itself, it's the hormones stored in your fat being released.  I think my biggest fear ****il surgery was over) was that they would cancel my surgery.  I account for most of that being from having survived 2 childhood illnesses that should have killed me, a car accident, and several surgeries before this one.

As for a food funeral, you will be eating again.  If you like buffets, do that now.  It will be a long time before you'll feel like paying the price for the amount you eat.  As for Chinese food, you will be able to eat it again, but will have to avoid the deep fried stuff.

Some like Opti, some don't.  You can add SF flavorings, but my best advice, make it as cold as you can.  I was worried about the vanilla, so I got all chocolate.  But with vanilla, you can add a bigger variety of flavors to it.

The nerves may start once I open that box.  It will be a challenge for sure.  I have my PATTS on my first day so it will be interesting to say the least.  I have to say, my only fear is not coming home to my son who is 12 and living with Asperger's.  I have visions of showing up at HRRH and being wheeled right in to the OR without anytime to think about it.  Which might be a good thing

i have no desire to go back to my previous eating habits.  I have broken that addiction and I know that temptation is always in the background but i have been miserable and big most of my life.

I have one box of vanilla and 3 of chocolate and 2 bottles of SF syrup with a coffee warehouse not far from my house with a multitude of flavours

It just feels right

Then you know you are ready to rock this, pre and post op. Worst part of the whole process is the hurry up and wait.  Hurry up get here early, but wait until we are ready for you.

You'll be fine, you already have the best attitude.  You are doing this for you, and the side effects will be good for your family as well.  And you'll be looking forward to each eating stage as you get there.

Bariatric surgery is a big decision, that our teams have made sure we are ready for. It is a long process of education and soul searching. By the time we reach the point of Opti-Fast, we have made up our minds that this is the only decision, for us. It isn't just you. Many, not all, of us are/were at that same confident decision point. Good luck to you, on your surgery. It is a journey and one hell of a ride.
