Smelly breath
Hi
From what I am able to search on OH I am thinking my smelly breath is ketosis from fat burning (I am hoping this is what is happening). I didn't realize this happens after surgery - sorry if I sound ignorant but I thought it was associated with Optifast only. So you can be in this state even though one eats carbs?
It tastes almost like what I would think butane would taste like - if that makes sense.
I have been brushing a lot and taking sugar free mints but it's really gross and making me somewhat self conscience.
Anyone have any idea how long this lasts? It's almost enough to turn me off of eating....but not quite :o)
Yep it's ketosis and it is a good thing :)
Can still happen if your carbs are low. That's why so many people do low carb after wls because they WANT ketosis and to get off as much weight as possible quickly. It's a crappy side effect unfortunately.
Mints, mouthwash, brushing..whatever works for you.
Most people notice it the first few weeks to a month and then find it diminishes but it's one of those things that can vary from person to person. Once your carbs go up more, you'll probably find it stops.

I had this happen just last week, I was travelling and did not get enough water or food in. Mine lasted about a day or so, I got back into my food routine and made absolutely sure I was getting in all my water....that and I brushed my teeth a lot. Lol
it still happens as although we are eating, we are just not taking in as much as we should. I think it's pretty easy to fall into ketosis, I am just 2 months post-op.
I hope you get this cleared up, I know how you feel. ;)
