*NEW HOT DRINK RECIPIE!!!!*

I have been really getting sick of drinking cold protein shakes.  They now make me gag so it is getting very difficult for me to get in my required 60+grams of protein /day.

Sooo ... I decided to muck about in the kitchen with a new tin of loose leaf earl grey tea I found, and my favourite soy milk and vanilla protein powder.  And honestly folks, the hot drink I made is DELICIOUS!!!!!!!  Check it:

  • measure out 1 tbsp of loose leaf earl grey tea (or 2 Earl Grey tea bags - depending on how strong you want it to taste) and put it in a microwavable dish w/ lid
  • measure out 1 cup of soy milk (or reg. cows milk if you choose) into the dish w/ the tea
  • cover and microwave on power 8 for 2 minutes
  • using a tea strainer, pour liquid into a mug - disposing of loose leafs
  • add 1 full scoop of vanilla protein powder (30 g of protein/scoop - I use ISOFLEX)
  • stir immediately to fully dissolve powder
  • ENJOY!!

i LOVE London Fog Lattes and this is simply a high protein version. Honestly folks,  this has totally made protein powder tolerable for me again!

This is my Christmas gift to you all!  Blessings this week and stay warm and cozy!  :)

I was reading last night somewhere that when you use the protein powder in a hot drink it decreases the potency of the powder, so your not actually taking in as much protein. Someone said they were using it as a hot chocolate and someone responded with that.

I am pre op and still researching myself so I'm not sure if this is true or not. But I just wanted to mention it and give a heads up just incase there is some truth to it.

Thanks Kimber!

I have been experementing with protein powder in hot foods for some time now.  If you put it in something too hot it curdles into a gross, hard mess -- which no one can eat.  but if you put it in foods that are not scalding hot you're safe.

one is urged to put protein powder in hot soups, mashed potatoes, stews, and other hot foods (mashed potatoes).  adding it to a hot milk beverage is no different than adding it to soup.

this is something you can take back to your bariatrtic centre for further clarification.

thank you for sharing this with us - and keep on investigating!

thx for posting Picante, this sounds so yummy!  I too can barely stomach the cold protein shakes, I had to hold my nose to drink the Premier Shakes from Costco and then a friend recommenced the GNC Lean Shakes so I tried those, they are way better than the Premier ones but still I am not in love with them.  Just wondering where did you buy your Isoflex protein powder?

Thanks so much for sharing, hope you have a wonderful Christmas!

All the best,

Leslie

Hey Aloa!

I got my ISOFLEX from Popeyes (Dixie and Dundas, Mississauga).

The funny thing is, there was once a time when I could drink the stuff easy.  Ever since surgery, I am so sensitive to food and drinks and scents.  I use to love ISOFLEX powder and now, just last week, i tried drinking it for breakfast and I gagged.  Thank God i came up with London Fog Protein Latte -- cause I can totally keep that down.

I use soy milk as well ... since surgery I can't manage cow's milk.  -shrug-.

Enjoy!  Blessings and have a safe and wonderful Chritsmas! :)
