Weight gain during process?!
I'm having a few medical issues that a specialist is trying to figure out and he's been putting me on different medications...some of which have made me gain weight. Guelph has been very sympathetic to this and haven't said anything negative (they are awesome!), but I still get that guilty feeling because I'm gaining weight or staying constant. The whole purpose of this is to lose and I'm not. I'm still in the process, so I haven't had surgery...I think the specialist is looking at my issue being Rheumatoid Arthritis - I have a lot of pain and in the past few weeks have not been able to exercise much at all - I do make an effort, but after a few minutes am frankly in so much pain, I have to stop. Even a trip around the grocery store has me unable to bend over and ready for a nap. Has anyone had the surgery with RA? Does it get better? (please tell me it does!)
Thanks,
Andrea

If you have RA it will not get better without drug intervention. What will help is the lack of strain on your joints. I have osteo and fibromyalgia. I still have pain but not nearly as debilitating as it was. Before I was like you. Walking around a store could be a strain. Now a walk and bike for miles I hope you find a solution.
Thanks Patm, I was told I have fibro a year ago but that the pain I was having was from something else (because there was lots of inflammation)...I would just like the specialist to figure this out so I'm not in so much pain.

I am 7 days out from having my surgery in Guelph and they do not expect you to lose weight before surgery they expect you to maintain your weight before surgery. I can't imagine them penalizing you for gaining a bit of weight from new medicines you are taking. They are very kind caring people. If you have a condition that requires nsaids for pain they will give you the sleeve and not the rny. Your feeling badly about your gain isn't realistic it is an emotional issue for you. I am only guessing but I think most of us have food and weight related guilt. Treat yourself with the love and respect you deserve. Good luck on your journey.
Thanks zillah - I am hoping that the sleeve will be what the surgeon chooses. I do take quite a few meds. Guelph has been so wonderful! I particularly like the social worker - she's very upbeat and a great listener. (I think her name may be Lisa? I forget...) I think just because I'm going through so much, I'm focusing on the weight gain and it's just making me feel like I'm failing - yet again. But I'll get over it, eventually.
