Tab, excellent post...Your past surgery is very similar to mine. No support , no knowledge of vit, protein nothing.. And with my VBG done in 1999 i couldnt eat fruit or most veggies. They made me throw up . And yep the junk stayed down. Part of my staple line was gone as well. Its only been 5 weeks and i feel better than i have in 14 years , i havent thrown up once since surgery , and i have been eating some veggies. I made cauliflower casserole just tonight and it stayed down . I havent ate cauliflower for years. Everyone has seconds thoughts and what ifs , but like you said educate yourself. And listen to the support that is given...Have a good night everyone..Krista.

Yep - I have to be very careful with veggies too. I LOVE raw carrots, cauliflower, broccoli...haven't had any since 2001. Even cooked, broccoli and cauliflower give me issues.

Amazing, what this surgery can do. It's all about perspective and knowing what you want. :)

I lost 40 lbs after my referral and became very ambivalent about surgery.  I had a relapse in my depression a year later and gained back 30 lbs.  After that I went for it - had to repeat the nutrition class and see the psychiatrist a few times to ensure I had recovered from the depression and had surgery 1 week ago.

I wish one of the clinicians had told me that surgery can help folks who have lost weight continue to lose and maintain the losses.  We all know the rate of regain is very high.

Try to eat well and exercise as those are good habits and might also result in weight loss.  They do the surgery based on your referral weight so you won't lose so much as to become ineligible.

I got my date really fast which was good as I only had to do 10 days of opti and had only 1 evening for a food funeral.  I think I would have gained if I had a lot of notice for surgery as i would have had lots of those.

I think we can only try to prioritize our health and it is a lot of work for us.  This is the 'gold standard' for weight loss in studies that compare all the studies.  It isn't perfect and there are issues but it is the best chance.

Best,

Deidre

I can share with you that about 3 years ago I decided it was enough, my brother had died a little while before and I had coped by eating everything and ballooned up to at least 350. I couldn't walk at all, I could barely stand without my back going out on me. I was a hot hot mess. And so I did a month of nutrisystem and then just dieted and exercised like crazy and I dropped about  90 pound through, blood sweat and tears. But in the end here I am about to have surgery because most of it came back. If you have tried and tried and tried and the pathway led you here, then I think you know in your gut that this is what's meant to be. You've got this! This is your time to shine darlin! *more hugs*
