They recommend you stay nearby for a few days, simply because their Emergency Department is better equipped to serve you, should you have any difficulties.

There is a Holiday Inn Express right across the road.  When you call them, let them know you are a patient at HRRH and you will receive a discount.  I think you can get a standard room for $99.

my surgery is at humber on tuesday and im 2 hours away.  I personally am just going to see how I feel when I am released and will probably just go home.  If i am in tons of pain then I may stay an extra night.  My issue is that I do not have alot of friends or family so no one to stay at the hotel with me.

I'm on Wednesday, maybe I will see how I will feel as well.

Thanks,

Sharon

Being several hors away and new post op patient is not a good idea regardless of how you're feeling.  A problem can remain undetected for hours and by the time you're home...  do yourself a favor and stay near your hospital for a few days.  I had no problems but I was a 20 minute drive to St Mike's.   Do you have life insurance or not.  You probably won't need it soon but you likely still own it.  You own it "in case".  Same thing here!  Just in case.

I have stayed at both the holiday inn express and travellodge when I go to hrrh.....I would pick travel lodge over holiday inn....the rooms are nicer and newer and they also have fridges and microwaves.....tell them when you book...and they give you the rate of 99....stay you will not regret it.

For your own peace of mind and recovery I too recommend staying a night or two.  You have to trust the advice and experience given here even though you live less than two hours away from your centre and it really is better to have a plan "just in case"  and really a hotel room is no pressure and all about you.  wishing you all the best.
