Anyone been to TEGH lately for a pre-op?

Just wondering what to expect. Please share your experiences...

It is enough of an adventure for me to drive there - mostly because I hate driving in the city and get really freaked out.

The good thing about TEGH is you do not need to go into the downtown core. It is really close to the Parkway

I'm going on Jan 17 for my pre-op there!  Don't know what to expect but the usual blood taking, body checking, discussion of meds etc.  Nothing too freaky!

And I work right by TEGH.  It's hardly the "city" so don't worry!

I had mine in September at TEGH.  I found it all went pretty smoothly.  They put you in a room, and everyone comes to you.  First I saw the Pharmacist, who looked over any meds/vitamins I was taking, and advised me when to stop these pre-surgery.  Then a nurse came in and took the usual (BP, Blood, Pulse) did an EKG (really easy - just put some sensor pads all over you), and finally I had to go swab myself in the bathroom (anal and vaginal).  Finally the anesthesiologist came in and looked in my mouth, and then we talked about bringing my CPAP.

The whole thing only took a couple of hours, but I guess it could be longer if any of these people are held up for some reason (i.e. an emergency or a lot of other appointments).  So I would suggest bringing a good book, something to drink and a snack.

Good luck!

Yep, I went near the end of October for my pre-op assessment.

It went really well when I was there.  I got there, and what they did was they had me sit in an examination room (comfy chair, etc.), and then all the people you have to see come to you in your room, instead of you going back and forth to various rooms to see them.  It worked out quite nicely.

I've heard that some people end up waiting a long time, so you might want to charge your phone so you can play games or surf online, or bring a book.  But mine went pretty quickly - I was in and out of there in a couple of hours.

Edited to add: See, this is why you should read every post in the thread before posting.  I could have just said "Ditto to what Julia said"!  :)

LOL - it's good to hear multiple experiences!  I think TEGH has one of the faster pre-op processes - everyone that I know who went through their had a fairly short wait.  I've heard of 6-9 hour waits at TWH and HRRH!
