Can I nap & carb load but skip the running?

I know a few poss-RNYers who carb load to take a nap. So weird.

I got sugar free tablets from the Running Room.  I never like the way any of those things taste, but they do give you a kick of energy while you run.  If you take any of those tablets, chews, or beans, remember that you have to drink water with them.  It says right on most packages- something about the way they breakdown.  You can also bring dried fruit (raisins, apple rings, cut up apricot), but have all of these things sparingly because there is nothing worse than trying to find a port a-potty during a race.

I'm with Barb.  I eat before and after, but rarely during.  I did my half marathon on a Greek yogurt, a piece of toast, and closer to race time, a banana.  Afterwards, at the finish line, they gave away tons of stuff and I had chocolate milk (I don't dump), some Triscuits, and more fruit.

I did drink more than I usually do though.  It was hot and I was very thankful for my hydration belt.  I used 3 of the 4 bottles on my belt.

Thanks!! I'll look into those beans and gels. I just worry about keeling over with low sugars. I mostly mini dump, meaning things like chocolate milk would give me that lump in my chest feeling, but nothing else. I think that I just need something once during a half marathon, just to keep me going. I guess I did almost a half half marathon lok (12k). I needed something by that point. I'm going to test it out on Saturday.

Taking a test run is a great idea.  I had run 21 k three times before my half marthon and I found that really gave me the confidence that I needed.
