Liver Transplant

Hello Everybody,

It has been a long time since I last posted here.  My highest weight was 652 pounds.  I had my surgery in Utica New York 4 years ago on Feb 29th 1998.  YUP leap year!

I weighted 530 pounds when my surgery was done.  I now weight 292 pounds.  I have lost allot of weight.

I have had some problems along the way here.  I needed to have my Gallbladder removed.  I weighted to long to have it done and the surgery did not go as well as it should have.  The Doctor nicked the Bile Duck and I needed to go to Ottawa to have it repaired by a Specialist.

During the process of having the Bile Duck repaired the Doctors found Stone's in the Bile Duck.  These stone could not be repaired in the usual way because of my previous Gastric Surgery.  So they opened me up and went in to remove the stones from the Bile Duck.  It took 5 hours for them to do this but found out that they could not Reach the Stones and Gave up.

They did leave a tube in the larger of the two stomachs that I have and operated two months later and were able to successfully remove the Stones in my Bile Duck at that time.

Now for the bad news.  When they did the 5 hour Surgery the Doctors saw the condition of the liver and took a piece of it to test.

That test was done and a few others.  It was determined that my Liver is only functioning at 10%.  I need a Liver Transplant.  That is right.  I destroyed my Liver.

The Doctors do not have any one reason for it to have gotten this way.  They figure that all the fat that was on the Liver when I weighted 650 pounds helped to Harm it, also I lost my weight to fast.  This also caused a problem.  They do not know how long the Stones from the Bile Duck were there and think that worked against the liver and maybe a dozen other reasons.

In the end I need a Liver Transplant.

My Liver Transplant Surgery will be a difficult one because of how many Surgeries I have had.  I am told a normal Transplant takes about 6 hours but mine may take 12 to 18 hours.

So I guess my message to all of you today is this.  The Gastric Surgery I had helped me loose a great deal of weight.  This is good.  But you must follow your Doctors Instructions very carefully and do not loose it to fast.  If you need other Surgeries then do them in a timely manner.  Do not put them off as I did.  Listen to your Doctors, do as they say and all will be fine.

Have A Great Day Everybody!!

I am not on the Transplant List yet.  I have another test on Monday October 29th at 9 am in Ottawa in Nuclear Medicine for the Kidneys.  It takes 4 hours all together.  So far I believe all the testing I have done as gone well.  Hopefully I find out soon and get on the List.

Take Care and Have a Great Day!!
