Drinking and Waiting to Eat - Are you strict?

I drink right up until I start eating but always wait the 30 minutes.

I'm 5 months out and actually feel sick to my stomach if I drink earlier then that.

 

 

I do not drink with my meals but have been finding a problem around exercise. If I go for a long bike ride I often have a snack half way. But then because I'm exercising I want to drink. I find waiting at least 15 min hard enough. I have been slipping on the timing and am trying to re-focus

I was told not to drink 30 mins before eating because it makes your pouch slippery and food will just zip through .... i still follow the 30 min before and after rule 19 mos out. 

I was very good for the first 8 months mostly waiting about an hour before drinking after eating.  That has been slipping lately and is something I want to get back to.

I don't drink before for 30 and not after for 40. I am totally paranoid about malabsorption.
