Does anyone know how much does a private room cost if you don't have extra insurance and want to pay out of pocket?
I am trying to figure out if this is at all feasible and since I have a few more months I might be able to save up.... based on the answers I get .

I also had coverage for a private room but the Ottawa Civic didn't offer private rooms for RNY- they have 2 rooms set aside for us and they are 2 patients to a room.
I would have had to been on a different floor or something like that....
Might be different elsewhere.... It's really not that bad! If they are pleasant you have someone to talk to!!
Good luck!

The difference between the cost of a private or semi-private room and the cost of a standard ward room *** ($180. per day for semi-private and $220. per day for private).

If you have insurance that covers sem-private than you would be out of pocket $40. per day

I had semi coverage but at TWH they gave me a private room. It seemed like the RNY patients all got a private room.

Many times private rooms are unavailable as they are kept for patients needing isolation. I know that was the case in Hamilton. I had a semi-private and it was fine. Usually you're there for just a couple of days. As long as you end up with a decent roommate you should be ok. (I'd hate a ward room, though!)

I had coverage for semi private and requested that but they left me in a ward (with three male roommates). In my discomfort I didn't have the energy to put up a stink. I was at St Mikes.

Honestly... It varies hospital to hospital even within the same network.

Private at HRRH Church was to be 400$+/night in 2010. I had semi-private coverage which covered up to 250/night which was good because semiprivate was 250...

It would be easier to call and ask directly about availability and cost.

LOL - sorry for the laugh. I do have private coveradge - but there are no pivate rooms at HRRH - If you are lucky you will get a semi - private. The private rooms are reserved for people with transmittable diseases (TB - MRSA - etc..) No private rooms -
