Self esteem is not a Bi-otch.

Your scales and the OCD with them? THAT.. is a bi-otch.

If you didn't know you were 3 lbs away, would it mess with your head this way?

You exercise, and contrary to other statements, exercise is a great mechanism for more things than just weight loss. Things are just not so black and white. And as a chiclet who does hard core exercise, you know that. Great for the head, the heart, the spirit. On and on.

Seriously,, go kick "Mal".. Please. If I can get to  even half of where you are I'd be SOOOOOO thrilled..

Honest!

I am hoping to get to a point where I can. I didn't weigh myself as much before. And you're right. Today i'm 136, so now 5 pounds away again. It sucks, and makes me down.

In the past, when I put the scale away, the pounds came back on as I got lazy with food. This worries me. My therapist "allows" me do weigh myself once a day. I, at one point, and like many others on here, was doing it three times a day. Not good.

I know it's a huge issue. The whole team at TWH knows it's an issue with me, which is why Katie is hoping I can let go.

First off why did it make you cry? In a way in that you feel relieved that your body has a 'set point' and you can stop killing yourself trying to lose those last few pounds or in a way that this article has destroyed your dreams of every achieving your century goal?

I disagree wholeheartedly with this article and please don't take 1 article as written in stone. Researchers do studies and make them work to however they want it to read.

I have been reading more and more about the effects of wheat gluten on the body and there seems to be a lot studies backing this up yet nutritionists still hawk whole grains as being what we should all be eating. One year eating eggs is good, the next it is bad, same with every other food group known to man. Next year whole grains will be bad and rice will be good. I have read that in some ways brown rice is no better than white rice. Everyone can twist every study, every piece of research and make it what they want to say.

I believe that likely there is a way to get those last few pounds off. I think what you have accomplished is amazing and I don't dream of even offering any advice but I think anything is possible.

This article to me is less about the nitty gritty of fitness and is a 'feel good' article that you'd find in the average women's magazine.

Indeed. All of the above. My BF asked me the same thing. And at first, it was a lovely e-mail from Katie. But then I realized that this might just be IT. And that's hard to swallow.

I don't know how much the article is true or not. However, I have talked to MANY vets who say they settled at 10 pounds above their lowest weight. With this in mind, I don't wish to be in the 140's. I'm stressing about the future....

Great post and my SW told me something similar recently but I am not there yet and still want to push a bit to see where my body will go. I am not yet a year out though so think I might still have a bit of room.

I think you have done marvellously and I think yes we can get stuck on a number as I may very well be. I am trying not to let a scale number be the sole measure of success and/or dress size.

Thank you. I talked to my NUT in person on Friday and she was very helpful and understanding at where my head is that. I am letting to of the number and just continuing on as I am. I have decided to start training for a half-marathon. I will also do another triathlon next summer (I skipped this summer as my sugars were out of control). I love that I CAN even consider this
