Is it true about Ottawa wait times?

I am about 7 months in, and have pre-surgery class in Sept and meet the surgeon in Sept, and was told surgery before Christmas! That's 10 months ish for me! I have not done a GI scope, and all of my testing is done. I hope they don't request one, I have not had heartburn, so hopefully it will be all systems go!

Orientation - April 25, 2012, Nurse - May 16, 2012, Social Worker - May 25, Dietician - May 25, 2012, Abdominal Ultrasound - June 29, 2012, Cardiologist - August 1, 2012 Pre-Surgical Education Class September 19, 2012, Meet with Surgeon September 27, 2012, PATTS November 9, 2012, Surgery Date November 16, 2012 (Dr. Mamazza)

I had my info session in Ottawa March 28, 2011.. I'm still waiting and just found out last month that the WLC wants an MRI of my abdomen which was the first I had heard of this request.. Now the hospital tells me the waitlist for MRI's is 1 yr from the receipt of the referral which puts me in May of 2013.. I thought I was close because the RD told me my next step was the Education class and then apt with Surgeon.. not so much!! So, I would say 2yrs is the norm for Ottawa.. Very frustrating I must say. But then again, I have no patience whatsoever!

Call the wait managment clinic and ask to speak to lana, she will give you the mri booking phone number. I called and got my appt and it was about 2 months away. I got the impression if I hadnt called the booking office my file would have been on the backburner. the civic has their mri appts 24 hours 7 days a week. mines at midnight lol

I too thought the mri would be a very long weight after research on the net, but turns out its not that bad

See if you can have the MRI at a different hospital. Montfort is much faster then the Civic for MRIs.

Montfort is a different hospital then the Civic so they won't allow tests done at either the Montfort, CHEO, or Queensway Carleton.

But that is a good idea to see if the Riverside or General Campus can take you earlier (those are the hospitals linked together).

actually for the mri you can go anywhere including self pay in gatineau if you want to avoid waitng. they just give info to civic.

The WLC will also tell you that the wait is 9-12mths from the date of your first appointment with the RN.

I was referred last August and went to orientation in Ottawa on November 2 2011. My file was sent to Kingston in May 2012 and have since had all of my appointments in Kingston. I've been told that, once I'm added to the surgical wait list ( which I'm not right now b/c my HbA1C is .02 mmol too high ), there will be another 9-12 month wait.

at the orientation session in April, they were saying it's a year until the next step. It's nice to see that some of the people from April are moving forward.

I just went for the orientation session on August 24, 2012 and we were told that it would take 9 months before you are called to make an appointment for the next step! *Sigh*, I hate waiting!
