Is it true about Ottawa wait times?

Hi All,

I posted a few weeks back about getting my referral to WLC and recieved alot of great feedback about what the typical wait times are for Ottawa....since then I recieved my letter and invitation for the Information Session for September 21st...needless to say this is great news for me!

However in recieving great feedback from my prev ious post I heard that Ottawa has made recent changes to significantly reduce their wait times for surgery. As a result the average wait time is 10mths???....Is this a wonderful dream I'm having?...is it true?.....Has anyone heard this?...As most of you know in the Ottawa surrounding area currently waiting, the expectant time frames are approximately 2yrs!!!!

Please tell me others have heard this wonderful news as well!

My referral went in October 18th, 2011, I went to info session Jan 6th.

I have been through most appointments as of now, however was requested to get a GI scope ( will be at the end of september ) and follow up with dietician.

I then have the surgery class and meet the surgeon left. I have been doing this almost 11mths. I am keeping faith that maybe I will have my surgery before the end of 2012... I hope!

I am happy to hear they have reduced wait times!

Interesting that you mention GI scope. I just had one. Do you know why they are requesting this?

Nurse asked me if i have heart burn, i said once in a while- but not often... she said to be on the safe side it would be best to get one...

im hoping all is clear! I am nervous about it tho...

I am going to an information session in Ottawa next week and hope to hear that the wait time is less than 2 years too. I look forward to seeing some responses from the Ottawa group :)

I had my referral go in at the end of January 2011, orientation March 2011, surgery March 2012, Things only took off in October/November 2011 for appointments. I only had to have a GI scope, that was just to make sure the old stomach looked healthy, once it gets "sealed off" there is no other way to see it.... Thats what I was told....

Good luck and I hope the rumor is true!!! 10 months would be fantastic!

the worst part is the wait pre-surgery. Time seems to stand still!! ....but now, it seems like the time AFTER surgery has literally flown by!! I can't believe I am coming on on my one year post op anniversary already!!

I think it all depends on whether you count your "wait" as the time from when you went to your doctor to get referred or when you attend the orientation.

When I attended the orientation last August they said the wait was 8-9 months for the next appointment. It seems from first appointment to surgery is between 4-6 months.

I guess if you count from referral to surgery it can take up to 2 years. I didn't hear any talk about changing the process however there are now 3 surgeons so that will help.

I know the wait is hard. I am impatient myself. It is good to wait though because it makes you think through yoru decision and read up about it.
