Gall Bladder and Constipation - since we're all talking about it

I had another attack on Saturday. I deciphered that it is....CHEESE :-( My most favourite protein!! The attack was horrible, and i'm sure that it what the pain is. The ultrasound came back as gall bladder sludge.

What did you do for the pain, before having the gall bladder removed (which i'm assuming I will be). I'm sure I'll find out next week after my GI.

Also, could my gall bladder issues be causing my constipation issues? And how long can I take MOM, or other stool softeners. Will my body just get used to it, and i'll always need it?

Hmmm. I don't recall having constipation relating to gallbladder issues. I do, however, have strong recollections about dairy (even low fat stuff) and anything with the least bit of fat causing severe attacks.

I hope they're able to remove yours sooner rather than later.

Well, so far it's cheese. And only cheese. Maybe it could get worse? I can drink 2% milk with no problems.

That's good. It's likely the higher fat in the cheese that's causing the problem.

Oh yes, hugely high in fat. Cheese and crackers are my go-to for quick protein and carbs (to keep my sugars in check). Sigh. On Saturday I had that, and 2% milk. Today, I had a latte with 2% milk and no problems. So still the cheese.

Ya foods with higher fat will set off gallbladder attacts, I used to have one (gallbladder) but was getting attacks soooo bad, I got it out! and will never look back!! Just think after it's gone, you can have cheese again with no worries! Getting mine out was the best thing I ever did! But I don't see how it can cause constipation problems, I don't have one and do still deal with that (almost 6 weeks post op). I hope you get better soon!

Oh try adding more fiber to your menu, it will help with constipation, I would increase water intake as fiber will also soak up more water too.

Oh. I drink lots of water, and I get lots of fibre and take probiotics. Constipation is fairly new to me and i'm almost a year and a half out. It coincided with the (possible) gall bladder pain, so I didn't know if it went hand in hand.

When I was having attacks daily .. that would have 8 or 9 years ago, I was down to only eating plain rice, boiled chicken and tuna.  That's it.   I was every so grateful to say goodbye to it.   Never affected bowel movements though.

They told me that they were going to have to open me.  A 400lb woman doesn't want to hear that.  So I went from October until June I think.    Progressively worse.    In June I went in over a hernia above my belly button, he said, we'll take out the gall bladder at the same time,... I freaked..  he said no, lap.   **** I could have had it done in the fall rather than wait until July.   Oh well, both are fixed.
