Intabated
Hi there,
I was told at my pre-op appointment that my airway is built funny (and the excess wieght didn't help either) and they may need to intubate me before they "put me under". He reassured me that I would be sedated and numbed, but wanted me to be aware that this was a possibility.
I was a bit anxious about it, but realized I couldn't control it, and knew they would do what is best for me.
It turns out they didn't need to, they used special pillow wedges to stretch my neck and felt that they could do it the standard way.
Hang in there, I remember thinking that it was just another unknown that I had to deal with and I was looking forward to be being in control again.

Please do not fret about this. I have had many surgeries (I've been around awhile
), some elective and some emergencies, at least 15. I have never remembered being intubated. I know that I have a small mouth and very expensive teeth and implants in there but I have NO, NADA, NONE, memories of being intubated, ever!
As has been said already, the need to be intubated is so you can remain asleep during the surgery (a good thing!!!) and so that you can get oxygen to your brain and other vital parts! (another good thing!)
So do not fret!
But, I have to have huge injections in each of my eyes every 2 months and that SUCKS!!!!
Please relax, they will take good care of all of us. That's the rules!
One more sleep for me! This time tomorrow, I will NOT be having water or Optifast!
