Probiotic not working

I had one day of relief after taking probiotics for the past week. I upped it to two a day, and still no relief. What does everyone do to get things moving? I drink my water, I eat my veggies. I do eat crackers daily. It honestly feels like malabsorption stopped, and so did my poop! lol I just wanna feel better.

On that note. I do have my abdomen ultrasound tomorrow and I go to TWH on Tuesday...then to St. Mike's for plastics right after that!! LOL

Help me move!!

Milk of magnesia or natural calm from health store (magnesium) works well

MOM is good to try, or get a stool softener to try as well. Benefibre can also help going forward, but make sure you're getting enough fluids in.

I had been constipated since day 1.  I was taking 2 stool softners a day and still no action and someone on this site suggested probiotics.  I tried a couple different brands that didn't work and then tried Jamieson 4 strain ( the 8 strain is more expensive and does not work).  I take 2 at bedtime and it works everday like a charm.  Give it a couple of weeks.  I took a stool softener along with the probiotic for a week or so to give the probiotic a chance to work.  Nice softish stools, no straining or digging required.  Walmart or Costco is cheapist. Won't be without it.

I poop twice a day....before surgery only once

But I feel your pain, was constipated for the first 3 weeks straight post surgery.

Probiotics doesn't work for everyone. I would intruduce more bran into your diet. 1 bowl of bran flakes a day should do it.

More water. Constipation is almost always caused by insufficient fluids. Take some MOM to get things moving, but then you need to rehydrate with extra fluids and then consistently get 2L per day.
I had OHIP approved Duodenal Switch surgery with Dr. Dennis Hong at St. Joseph's Hamilton on March 7th, 2012. Want more information on the DS in Ontario? Send me a private message!

My Dr. recommended RestoraLAX.  Its gentle enough for children.  Just ad it to your drinking water and its tasteless and clear.  Ive been using it every second day for the past two weeks.  I am no longer feeling uncomfortable and things are pretty much normal.

I am a probiotic believer.  I have been taking the Costco brand for a couple of years now.  I have had an irritable bowel for several years and found the probiotics helped immensely (loose stool).  Good luck Kellybelly on your upcoming days :)

Thank you all for your input. I will keep taking the probiotic and MOM. I was constipated a bit at the beginning, and took MOM then. I had forgotten about that! Lol and pat, I get lots of water in daily. I'm constantly drinking in between my meals.

Restoralax or Lax A Day or Miralax twice a day for a week to get things moving then once a day after that. Safe to take long term according to my GI specialist.
This is the only thing that has consistently worked for me.
