NOT RECOMMENDED: Summerhays Restaurant (Ottawa)

Thank you so much for your concern.
If you would like to call my nurse and discuss this with her I can forward you her number. We discussed my birthday dinner in depth at my appointment yesterday and I got her approval to go ahead. It was a quarter of a sandwich. I mean really people.
And furthermore, I did not have cake or ice cream or any other treat today. I appreciate that most people are not able to eat the soft diet after 1.5 weeks but not everyone is the same.

It was my nurse practitioner. We discussed my personal situation in depth. I made a choice. It's not going to kill me. I appreciate your concern but I think I know my body better than any of you. And I think I will make my decisions based on discussions between me and someone who has been trained instead of the uninformed opinions of people here who do not know my medical history or current personal situation.
Ultimately, this is not the point of the post.

It wasn't YOUR point of the post, true. But those of us who know better, and YES WE DO, are taking issue with what you're doing to your body at this very early stage.

She gave you permission to eat a grilled cheese sandwich? Unacceptable. Any thought about the healing process, the sutures holding your guts together at this point? By the way, grilled cheese sandwiches are NOT on the soft food diet. You're going to hurt yourself.

Nor should I have.
Anyway, I'm off to go eat grilled cheese sandwiches and bust my new guts. Don't try to stop me or I'll scream discrimination and never speak to you again.

*edited for missing word!!
I have a 2 tier comment, so here goes
1. If you choose to eat off the childens menu that is your right. I also do not agree that you should have to pay full price for food you will not be eating, not only is it wasteful but it just doesnt make sense fiscally. My FIL had RNY in 2009 and uses his card to eat off the childrens menu all the time. If the restaurant chooses not to honour the request to let you eat off the childrens menu he just gets up and leaves, then chooses not to be a patron at said restaurant again.
We all have different views on what is acceptable and what isnt. This forum is a place where you can vent about the things that upset you.
HOWEVER
2. I just want to make sure I read this correctly. You are only 1.5 weeks out from surgery and have already decided to throw the rules to the wind. I am at a loss why someone would take this chance with their lives (this is a major surgery), waste taxpayer money getting said surgery and take valuable space and appointment time from patients who will not throw their new found saving grace away. at 1.5 weeks you should still be on fluids. So you are not only taking a huge chance damaging your pouch, and asking for complications but you are wasting the best chance at leading a healthy wonderful life.
I will support someones right to stand up for what they believe to be right (even when I dont agree) with my dying breath. But someones absolute disregard for ones safety and health is not something that will ever be taken lightly by anyone I would assume and myself for sure.
