Sorry to hear you had such a bad experience.

Personally I don't have one of those cards nor do i really want one.  I don't discuss my medical issues with strangers.. but that's just me.. and my decision ... i always find something suitable to order (quite often from the appetizer menu), share with a friend or bring home a doggie bag (i love leftovers).
Sometimes the best support  you can get isn't all purple puddles and pink rainbows.

The grilled cheese (which I was dying for) was only on the children's menu in this particular case. They didn't have an adult option - other than paying more for the exact same thing.

A rather contentious issue.

I would personally never DREAM of asking for the children's menu (hello, I'm not a child and it's always filled with crap - like grilled cheese for example. )

Business owners are not responsible to make accommodations for me because I chose to have weight loss surgery. The cost of the food is negligible at best - they're paying utilities, rent, staff salaries.... the list goes on.

I do not want some stranger (i.e. wait staff) privy to my medical business. Besides, did I not eat enough as a morbidly obese person to make up for this??

No offense. I will never understand why people use those cards or feel they should get special treatment. We CHOSE this lifestyle.

No offense taken.

It was my birthday dinner and I was craving a grilled cheese. Obviously not the best choice food-wise but I wanted a treat. And, again, it was only to be found on the kid's menu. So there was no option other than to pay more for exactly the same thing.

I agree business owners are not and should not be obligated to make accommodations for me because I chose to have WLS. It was my decision and I own that. However, I also have the right to ask if any accommodations can be made for me and the right to be treated with respect whether they say yes or no.

I also have the right to complain or voice my concerns in a polite manner when I feel strongly about something without being treated like crap. Again, the way we were treated by the manager was the main problem we took issue with - not that they would not give me special treatment. $2 is obviously not worth a huge hassle but, as I mentioned, this was not the first time we have felt undervalued as customers at Summerhays.

I don't have a problem with people knowing about my surgery or medical issues. I have nothing to hide and nothing to be ashamed of so I have no problem showing my surgery card on the off chance that a restaurant might like to better accommodate me. By no means do I expect special treatment but, again, I don't think it hurts to ask. And it does not make me any less of a person to do so.

Time to rethink the "cravings".  No way in helll you should be eating bread fried in butter with cheese.

I appreciate your opinion and concern.
If I were shovelling fried bread, butter and grease into my face all day long (or ever before, since surgery, for that matter) I would agree with you. That certainly isn't healthy.

Don't some establishments offer smaller meals to senior's (less expensive)?  Does is really matter how old the customer is espeically since you are probably eating with someone who is ordering a regular size  meal?  Really, meals should be priced accordingly..  to the SIZE of the meal.

Is it also possible to share a meal with someone or do restaurants disaprove of that too??

I share meals with my boyfriend alll the time.  I also ask for a doggy bag.  Makes great leftovers for meals.

Ok...I've written & re-written this several dozen times because I'm trying to find a polite way of saying this but I can't so here goes...

Grilled cheese at 1.5 weeks out???? I understand it's your birthday but you're still healing. This is when you really have to start changing how you celebrate special occasions. My birthday was Sunday. No big feast, no cake, no sweets. I cooked lunch, my nephew & niece made me a cake but i didnt eat any of it. I come from an Italian family - everyday is a feast. That had to change. Even at work - I bought cake but didn't eat any. Why start on the slope of excuses to eat what I know I shouldn't.
