Diabetes
I saw my AIC when I went for a respirology appointment at st joe's and the doctor there was looking at my current results. I was disappointed to see 6.1. I thought the numbers would have been lower. I had surgery almost 8 weeks ago and perhaps the numbers reflected my pre surgery results as well. However, without any Meds this number is better. Thank you Paulafor your insights.
I was on 8 pills and one shot a day. AFter surgery I went to no meds but two months out I went back to 1 metformin a day and now alternate 1 or 2 a day. I expect my numbers to decrease with more weight loss. I have been diabetic for 7 years and might always be insulin resistant as I am in my 50's. I prefer taking the metformin until my AIC is below 6 as heart problems run in the family and I did have HPB but am now off all meds for that too. I am sure you will get direction when you see the nurse. I didn't wait for an appointmnet - I just called and talked to them and told them what I thought I should be doing and they agreed. I am pretty anal about my levels.

Maybe I am a crazy diabetic but 6-6.4 fasting sounds darn good to me.
I was on 150 units of insulin, 4 metormin and 4 diamicron daily for mine. I am 6 weeks post op and I have seen numbers as high as 10.3 post op not including the 16 i had right after surgery. The doctor put me back on 4 metformin daily till I lose more weight. 2 with dinner and 2 in the morning. Call your centre though and see they may want you to wait a little while to see if it comes down first. I was told to wait until I was seeing over 8 consistantly.
