Finally a Family Doctor

I am so happy after 5 years I finally got a family Doctor. WOOO HOOOO. No more walk in clinics and having to worry about who's going to help care for me locally after the surgery. What a relief. I just had to share.

Congratulations on getting in somewhere.  I am concerned that at one point my family will retire.  Then I will be on the lookout for a new doctor.

I'm so envious.  My family doctor retired about 5 years ago and I haven't been able to find anyone who will accept me.  I keep being told I have too many medical issues and need an experienced doctor but of course they aren't accepting new patients - umm isn't that why I need a family doctor?

Paula, have you gone through Health Care Connect? That's how you get assigned a Doctor in Ontario now. Here is the link  http://www.health.gov.on.ca/en/ms/healthcareconnect/public/ It took me about 2 years with them. It's so the Doctor can't pick and choose a patient the Government assigns them. Good luck

I am so happy for you!  I imagine I know how you feel.  I live hundreds of kilometres from my family doctor (not an exaggeration) and see him once a year for my pain medication which I can't get renewed via a clinic.  Post-op, I will be relying a clinic and an inadequate local ER and my wife (who is a champion driver from home to TO which is still 3 hours) for medical support.  I have some concerns about that as you did.  I have registered with the ON government for a new doctor but am a low priority because i "already have one".  Still its better than none, of course.   I would love to have a family doctor within an hour drive of my home!!!!
